Cost and coverage - Oregon healthy kids

Cost

There are three options for Healthy Kids coverage, each based on a family's income: no-cost, low-cost or full-cost.

No-cost

For the no-cost option, you do not pay for coverage.

A family of four that earns $44,000 or less per year may qualify for the no-cost option.

Low-cost

For the low-cost option, families pay a small portion of the monthly premium on a sliding scale; how much they pay depends on their income. On average, families with two to four children will pay a total of about $50 a month for health coverage for all kids. American Indians and Alaska Natives who qualify for the low-cost option do not pay monthly premiums.

A family of four that earns between $44,000 to $66,000 a year may qualify for the low-cost option.

Full-cost

For the full-cost option, families buy into the program at full cost. Current monthly rates range from $165 to $475 per child, depending on the age of the child and the plan of choice.

The full-cost option is for family whose income is above 300 percent of the federal poverty level, which is above $66,000 annually for a family of four.

* Program eligibility is based on average monthly income and number of members in the family. Income guidelines are approximate. Annual income for a family is used for example purposes.

Coverage

Healthy Kids covers all the health care kids need, including:

  • Doctor visits and preventative care
  • Medical, dental and vision care
  • Prescriptions and durable medical equipment
  • Mental health and chemical dependency services

Once enrolled, coverage lasts for at least one full year and can be renewed so long as the child is still eligible.

No child will be put on a waiting list or turned away due to a pre-existing condition.
